Dog found hanging from fence surrendered to Dorchester Paws

Summerville, SC- Monday morning Dorchester paws took over custody of a two year old German Shepard mix, named Ginger. She was found hanging from a chain link fence by the skin of her hind leg.  Lindsey Shattuck, a neighbor of the local Summerville subdivision, heard Ginger’s whines and enlisted help from Daniel Cooper to lift Ginger off the fence. They realized the extent of her injuries and immediately rushed her toVeterinary Specialty Care off of Montague Avenue.

After learning of Ginger’s life threatening injuries her owners surrendered her. Invested in Ginger’s survival Lindsey took to Facebook pleading for animal lovers to help. At this time, without any medical examination, the suspected cost was around $1,400. Dorchester Paws heard Lindsey’s plea and has since taken custody of the dog.

Ginger’s medical bill has quickly surpassed that of the initial estimate. Theavulsion wraps around her hind leg to the inside inguinal muscle and is described as “two hands in length.” She has received pain medication, IV fluids, and x-rays. Yesterday she was sedated to have her wounds clipped and cleaned.  It is still unsure when

she will be strong enough to undergo the surgery needed to close the wound. Ginger’s medical bills are adding up and are expected to reach a MINIMUM of $3,500. She is being monitored by Dr. Robert T. Pernell of Costal Carolina Veterinary, who is partnered with Veterinary Specialty Care to be the surgeon on Ginger’s case.

We don’t know the circumstances of Ginger’s past, but Lindsey describes her as “The nicest dog who gets along with animals and kids” in the neighborhood. VSC reports that Ginger is in good spirits this morning.

“Please consider donating towards our Michael’s Healing Heart medical fund to help support Ginger’s medical bills,” said Maddie Moore, Development and Marketing Manager for Dorchester Paws. The shelter would not be able to give Ginger, or other animals like her, a fighting chance without the generosity and support of our community.
