Humane Pet Store Ordinance

Dorchester Paws, the South Carolina Chapter of the Humane Society, and Dorchester County have been working together lately to redo a lot of local animal ordinances.
After investigating, it became clear that there were animals being sold at some retail stores, coming from various degrees of inhumane conditions. Those inhumane conditions directly result in neurological trauma and behavioral issues, often do to lack of socialization before being sold.

Our executive director, Kim Almstedt said it best, “We have had several admissions where the owners were sold a pure bred puppy and within weeks it was ill and they could not take care of it and it was surrendered to us.”
