On behalf of Dorchester Paws Board of Directors, Staff and our animals, we mourn with our community in the loss of an incredible animal advocate, friend and family member.

Jim loved his animals and the community of Summerville, more than anything. He is known to have been a selfless and loving community advocate, friend, and husband. While Jim’s commitments and legacy go beyond Dorchester Paws, we are honored for the dedication and love he gave to our mission.

Jim’s legacy with Dorchester Paws goes beyond his time on the Board of Directors as President and Vice President. Jim worked hand in hand with Frances Willis and Merle Handlesman. He started the annual antique auction and was instrumental in making sure the beloved Starkey family cats were cared for in their own home after the Starkeys passed. While Jim later handed the torch to his family, he remained heavily involved as a supporter.

Consider making a donation in Jim’s legacy, below. All donations are tax deductible and will go towards building the new shelter in his name.

Our hearts and paws are with our community and his family during this time.
